INDIANAPOLIS — April 24, 2008 — Firestone Building Products Company, LLC and Eastern Architectural Representatives, Woburn, Mass. together donated $10,000 to the Foundation Friends Program of the North/East Roofing Educational Foundation, Inc. (NEREF). Firestone and Eastern Architectural Representatives presented this year’s contribution to the Foundation during a reception held at the 2008 North/East Roofing Contractors Association (NERCA) Annual Convention and Trade Show in Atlantic City, N.J., on March 13.
“Through the charitable donations from Firestone and Eastern Architectural Representatives, NEREF has been able to offer higher educational opportunities to future roofing industry professionals, including the Firestone Platinum Scholarship,” stated Robert W. Therrien Jr., NEREF Chairman.
This year marks the sixth $10,000 contribution putting the to-date total at $60,000. Firestone and Eastern Architectural Representatives were the first organizations to donate at this level. In recognition of their charitable donations, NEREF established a Firestone Platinum Scholarship for deserving college and vocational school students.
Scholarship recipients are chosen based on academic record, leadership and participation in school and community activities, honors, work experience, and a statement of education and career goals. A total of at least nine $2,500 scholarships will be awarded this year.

Firestone annually promotes the advancement of the roofing industry through donations to roofing association scholarship programs, such as NEREF. NEREF works to provide scholarships to assist employees, immediate family members of employees or the immediate family of NERCA members planning to pursue post-secondary education in college and vocational programs. To date, NEREF has awarded more than $94,000 in scholarships to students throughout the Northeast.
