CLAD-GARD R, Addition to CLAD-GARD Line of UnderLayments
June 28, 2011
Firestone is pleased to announce the introduction of the new CLAD-GARD R (Reinforced) Metal Roofing Underlayment. With the addition of CLAD-GARD R, Firestone now offers three alternatives which may be used in a full system, single-source, Red Shield warranted installation that includes the insulation, underlayment, fasteners, clips, flashing and Firestone UNA-CLAD roofing panels. Firestone CLAD-GARD Metal Roofing System Underlayments are now required components in all Firestone Red Shield and Red Shield Medallion warranted metal roofing systems.
DESCRIPTION:
Firestone CLAD-GARD R is a Styrene-Butadiene-Styrene (SBS) rubber modified, self-adhesive membrane reinforced with a non-woven fiberglass mat. CLAD-GARD R has textured, skid-resistant traction film on the top surface and a silicone-treated, split-back opaque release liner on the bottom surface. Firestone CLAD-GARD R is intended for use as an underlayment with Firestone UNACLAD metal roofing systems. CLAD-GARD R is also suitable for use under mechanically-attached tile and shingles. CLAD-GARD R is non-permeable, and re-seals around nails in accordance with ASTM D 1970. CLAD-GARD R has a minimum application temperature range 40°F (4.4°C) and a maximum service temperature of 230°F (110°C). CLAD-GARD R can remain exposed to UV for up to 60 days, and is eligible for up to a 20-year Red Shield Warranty.
INSTALLATION:- Start at the lowest part of the roof deck and install the valleys first. Lay the membrane flat in place with the print side up.
- Cut the CLAD-GARD R to a length that can easily be managed.
- Along the side of the sheet, overlap the seams a minimum of 3” (76 mm).
- At the ends of the sheet, overlap a minimum of 6” (152 mm).
- Peel half of the release liner off the roll diagonally and apply with heavy, even hand pressure or brooming from the center of the sheet to the outer edges. Remove the remaining release liner from the other half of the roll and apply pressure in the same manner. Hand roll the laps to ensure adhesion.
- In very steep slope applications, back nailing may be recommended. When back nailing, be sure that all nails are covered by the next overlapping sheet.
