Introduction:
Firestone is pleased to present the following new application guidelines and technical information for the application of UltraPly TPO XR membrane in polyurethane foam adhesives over approved substrates. In addition to using the existing UltraPly TPO XR application options, the UltraPly TPO XR membrane can now be applied to a variety of substrates with a polyurethane foam bead or full coverage application using one of the two following product options:
 
  • Adhered with I.S.O.Spray S Adhesive – Full coverage or bead application
  • Adhered with XR Stick Adhesive – Bead application

Each option can be chosen to suit a roofing contractor’s and building owner’s needs, time constraints and budgets.
 
Features and Benefits:
There are a multitude of features and benefits for using UltraPly TPO XR membrane in Firestone foam adhesive, including:
  • Single side coverage of adhesive results in a faster installation
  • The added thickness from the fleece backed UltraPly TPO XR membrane provides added protection to the roofing waterproofing layer against punctures from roof traffic
  • The use of low VOC, urethane-based foam adhesives (such as XR Stick and I.S.O.Spray S) contributes to the reduction of a roofing project’s environmental impact
  • The urethane-based low VOC foam adhesive may comply with local air quality district regulations. Check with your local air district for VOC requirements
  • Applying the urethane based foam adhesives in a bead application with the use of pump grade application tools can greatly speed up the installation time, saving labor costs
  • UltraPly TPO XR Roofing Systems are accepted and approved for use by code approval bodies for wind uplift and fire resistance, including FM Approvals and Underwriters Laboratories
  • No primers are required over approved substrate prior to application of the XR Stick and I.S.O.Spray S
  • UltraPly TPO XR membrane roofing systems with XR Stick or I.S.O.Spray S are eligible for coverage as part of a Firestone Red Shield Warranty for up to 20 years
* Bead coverage rate for I.S.O.Spray S may vary depending on the equipment supplier’s suitability for use and mix/meter/spray ratio of the two –part polyurethane foam adhesive.

Note:
  • The use of either Firestone XR Adhesive or hot asphalt is also acceptable for warranty. See the TPO Design Guide for acceptable substrates and other important information
  • Coverage rate may be reduced due to irregularities in substrates; contact your Firestone Technical Coordinator
 
Perimeter/Corner Enhancements (for XR Stick or I.S.O.Spray S Bead Application @ ¾” to 1” bead width):
Note: For easy installation of bead application at the roof perimeter and corner areas, Firestone recommends applying the beads perpendicular to the roof edge direction. See Firestone Detail Drawings and the UltraPly TPO XR Application Guide for specific instructions.

UltraPly TPO XR Systems adhered in XR Stick or I.S.O.Spray S Adhesive:

  • ½” ISOGARD HD Cover Board
  • ISO 95+ GL or RESISTA Polyisocyanurate insulation
  • DensDeck Products
  • Structural Concrete (new and existing)
  • Plywood and OSB
  • Cementitious Wood Fiber
  • Gypsum Decks
  • Lightweight Concrete
  • Existing Asphalt and Modified Bitumen Roofs (mineral and smooth surfaced)
  • FiberTop Wood Fiber Board
  • SBS Base Sheets
 
Installation Details - UltraPlyTPO XR in XR Stick or I.S.O.Spray S Adhesive:
  • For a complete list of updated TPO XR detail drawings refer to the appropriate section in Firestone’s Technical Database
  • TPO XR membrane in XR Stick or I.S.O.Spray S can not be used for vertical walls or curb flashing. Refer to standard UltraPly TPO details for these applications
  • TPO XR membrane in XR Stick or I.S.O.Spray S must be mechanically anchored at the roof perimeter using standard UltraPly TPO mechanical base tie-in details

  11. User shall be liable for any claims and/or damages to FSBP and its related entities.
